AbstractLinguaFolio Online is an online portfolio assessment first piloted in 2008. It is a holistic portfolio approach of formative assessment aligned with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Proficiency Guidelines. The aims of LinguaFolio Online are to promote reflective and autonomous language learning, and cultural interactions through the use of a self-assessment and goal setting. Research indicates that LinguaFolio Online can benefit students by increasing achievement, motivation, autonomy, and engagement. This study is a living example of the implementation and practice of LinguaFolio Online in a middle school French classroom at the novice level. This qualitative study seeks to understand the realities and middle school students' perspectives of implementing and using LinguaFolio Online in the world language classroom. By using the qualitative research methods of observation and conversation, surveys, and a focus group interview, the researcher was able to uncover relevant information about the middle school students' perceptions of LinguaFolio Online. Through the analysis of the findings this paper concludes that LinguaFolio Online is a feasible formative assessment that students find both fun and beneficial.
