Transcription"I returned to Fargo at night. Ten years ago there was no Fargo. In 1879 it was a city in outline. I found it a city crowned with spires and towers of churches and schools, and in the sunset the sound of the hammer was still busy, a better note than any drum tap of war, and I said again, Thank God this is America! 'He's getting patriotic, ' said Charlie to Gentleman Jo. 'does it make one feel like that to travel through the West?' 'It affected me that way, ' said Gentleman Jo. 'I am glad we have a patriotic poem to close our exercises, ' said the President, bowing to Wyllys Wynn, who rose and read: [followed by poem 'The Flag of Forty Stars'] - Text on page with image.
