Biography/History"MARY "MAYME" GILHAM CAME TO MEDORA IN 1883 WITH HER PARENTS. SHE WAS 7 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. MAYME, AS EVERYBODY CALLED HER, WAS A TRUE PIONEER WOMAN, SHE COULD RIDE ALMOST ANY HORSE ON THE RANGE, AND DID HER SHARE OF RANCH WORK, ENDURING ALL THE HARDSHIPS AND ENJOYING THE GOOD TIMES. MAYME HAD THIS SIDE SADDLE MADE TO ORDER IN 1896. SHE BROKE ALL HER OWN HORSES USING THIS SADDLE. AT THE AGE OF 92 MAYME RODE A PALOMINO IN A PARADE IN MEDORA. SHE USED HER SIDE-SADDLE, AND WORE THE RIDING SKIRT AND FELT HAT FEATURED IN THIS DISPLAY. SHE GAVE THESE ITEMS TO EVELYN CONNEL NEUENS WHO HAS LOANED THEM TO THIS MUSEUM"--Typed on information sheet.
