Transcription"This is the first airplane ever to come to Wahpeton. It was brought in the Richland County Fair Assn. as an added attraction in the early 1900s. Mr. Hughes was then secretary of the Assn. and a stipulation of the contract was that $2, 000 be raised locally which Mr. Hughes did speedily. Also proved in the contract was a ride for one person which Mr. Hughes received. Some modification of the plane was necessary before the plane could get off the ground with two passengers. Howard Gill was the pilot, a few years later he was killed. This is the story related to Marie Bakken by Mr. Hughes" – Typed on label under photograph.
