| Biography/History | Valley City entered the Chautauqua circuit in the summer of 1911. The Chautauqua movement was an educational movement dedicated to bringing education, entertainment, and moral guidance to the common man and woman. Between 1911 and 1932, Valley City hosted nationally famous orchestras, choruses, soloists, lecturers, stage productions, and various speakers on religion, politics, world travel, and social issues of the day. The Chautauqua Pavilion in Valley City housed a large circular auditorium with a stage, dressing room and a seating capacity of 1,200.
