| Description | Howard and Oscar talk about J.L. Fisk and the Fisk Expedition who left Minnesota with 180 wagons looking for a route through the Badlands to the gold fields in Montana. The group encountered Dakota Sioux at the Deep Creek near Rhame and they made a sod fort to protect themselves from the attacks. This was called Fort Dilts after one of the seven men who died during the battle at Deep Creek. They discuss more history of the Expedition, the burial of the military men killed, the capture and attempted ransom of Fanny Kelly, and the dedication ceremony that took place in 1932. |
