| Biography/History | The Fort Seward Historical Society established the Stutsman County Memorial Museum in June 1965. The Museum is housed in the George Lutz mansion, itself a monument of the early day history of the area. The four floors of the pioneer home have become a treasury of memorabilia reflecting the culture and life of the early pioneers. In the 1885 Dakota Territory census Geo. Lutz is listed as being 33 years old and as being born in Germany. His occupation was salesman in Jamestown, in Stutsman County. The mansion was built by a German immigrant, George Lutz, in 1907, and had served as the Lutz family residence for twenty years. In the 1890's George Lutz was a local lumber dealer in Jamestown, N.D. The Lutz house was used as a nursing home before it became a museum in 1965. |
