Transcription"Album from the Burlington Northern Railroad used in Europe to interest Immigrants to North Dakota about 1926, Kindness Burlington Northern and Royal Bestler, #77.12, Nov. 1st 1976"--Printed on cover of photograph album.
"Another From Minnesota. August 5, 1925. Stutsman County New Settlers Ass'n., Jamestown, North Dakota, Gentlemen - Thirty years residence in North Dakota, and comparing the opportunities here with those back east, and with the experiences of many who have left here and then come back to stay, have satisfied me that North Dakota is all right. I came to North Dakota in 1895 from Grove City, Minn., and when I came I had about $300 in money. Today I have 1, 200 acres of land all improved, the buildings and fencing, and silo, worth at least $25, 000. And I don't owe a dollar on any of the property or any other debts. I have 250 head of white faced cattle, 27 head of horses, and farm machinery. We also have a Delco light plant on the farm. I sell over two carloads of cattle, and one carload of hogs each year. I raise from 160 to 200 acres of corn and 160 acres of sweet clover and alfalfa. Stutsman County, I am certain, is a way ahead of other parts of the country, and I know I have done better here than I might have back home. One can get ahead here faster and easier than any other place I know of. The opportunities to buy good land at very reasonable prices are many and work, one can soon pay for it. We can raise most anything here that can be raised east of south of us. Yours truly, Nils N. Holm, Kensal, N.D."--Printed on paper next to photograph in album.
