| Biography/History | The Nativity of Christ Cathedral was built in the Neo-Byzantine style from 1876-1883. In the 1960s Soviet authorities closed it and converted it into a planetarium. In 1991 with Latvia independence from the Soviet Union, it was restored. Riga is the capital of Latvia, located on the Dvina River and the Gulf of Riga. It dates back to the late 12th century AD when German merchants established a community there. |
