| Biography/History | Bolley was probably comparing these sail boats to the sailing packets he might have seen in the United States. These small sailing vessels were widely used in the later part of the 19th century for internal mail and scheduled service using rivers and canals. Samara is a large Russian city located on the Volga River, southeast of Moscow. Its founding can be traced back to the 14th century. |
