| Biography/History | Saratov was built in 1590 as a major port on the Volga River, located approximately 600 miles southeast of Moscow. It was founded to protect the trade route along the Volga River. Saratov was moved twice, due to destruction, before its current location in 1674. A railroad was built in the 1870s from Moscow to Saratov. |
