| Transcription | "It has become the habit of city dwellers to blame the farmers for high prices. The old cry of 'the farmers are getting rich' has been nursed along by the profiteers as a fine smoke screen. As long as they were able to direct the attention of the public to the farmer while they were raising prices, they were able to continue doing so. The city workers, however, have had their eyes opened a bit, and some of them are seeing that most of the high prices they pay go into other pockets than the farmers'." - Caption text with published image in Nonpartisan Leader. "Some of the consumers who do not handle farm products really think that the farmer gets the greater part of the dollar which they pay for foodstuffs. When eggs are 50 cents per doz. - you can figure just how much he gets." - Handwritten at bottom of ink drawing. |
