| Transcription | "The North Dakota farmer is breaking some new ground this year. It's a little late, maybe, but its going to be done all the more thoroughly now that he has got around to it. The farmer has a great team for the work. It is the force of public sentiment, built up by many years of political and economic oppression and denial of the rights of the farmer. The plow is a strongly built and trusty implement, built especially for the job, with beams and stays well bolted together and with share of tempered steel. It is the Nonpartisan League, the instrument of deliverance from graft and oppression. there are some rocks and stumps to be encountered, but the team is strong enough and the plow itself will stand the shocks. The farmer's own hand is on the handles. His eye is steady and his muscles hardened by many years of hard labor and wrestling with nature. Besides, he has another guide, the invisible spirit of America, typified in his memory by the character of the great president who led the nation through its years of greatest storm and stress, the man who above all stands for government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE, whether it is national government or state government. When the plowing is accomplished the seed of better government will be sown. The plowing is now under way. The seeding will come later" -Accompanying text below image. |
