| Transcription | "The Vision and the Realization. The prophetic drawing by John M. Baer more than two years ago and its realization today are reproduced this week for the Leader cover. Two years ago the North Dakota farmer caught his vision, the vision of his own industries, free from the stain of profiteering. His wished disregarded, his rights trampled upon, the farmer determined that he should no longer be held under the thumb of the big interests. Today North Dakota has laid the cornerstone of economic freedom in America. The Bank of North Dakota has opened its doors. This single act has liberated the farmers of the state from the shackles of the money trust which wrung high rates of interest from the people of North Dakota for many weary years. North Dakota already is going forward with its work for the erection of state-owned mills and elevators, where the farmer will be assured of fair and equitable prices for his grains. The New Day, which the farmer of North Dakota saw breaking over the hills two years ago, has dawned." - Accompanying text with image, on page 2. |
