| Biography/History | Rodney Gilberts, a Pure Oil filling station operator in Pelican Rapids, Minn. was gunned down on December 18, 1954, by Donald Lee Fruhrman, during robbery. Fruhrman made off with about $195 from the cash register. Shortly after the robbery Gilberts body was discovered by a trucker, Calmer Kjono. Upon approaching the station, Mr. Kjono had noticed a young man leave the station and get into a Cadillac automobile parked nearby. Mr. Kjono's approached the car, and as he reached for the door a shot rang out and Mr. Kjono was wounded in the left hand. Mr. Fruhrman then sped off in the car, shooting at Mr. Kjono as he drove away. Mr. Kjono then summoned authorities who formed a posse, and Donald Fruhrman was captured three hours later on a road five miles northwest of town where he had run out of gas. |
