Transcription"Mule Deer Heaven - Typical Badlands hunting country is shown here. Eight hunters used a jeep to negotiate the hills and grasslands. Height to which the jeep has climbed can be estimated by viewing the automobile at the right center of the picture. Hunters had luck flushing mule deer from draws similar to the one in the center above, and also along the sides of the buttes." - caption with similar image published in The Fargo Forum, November 21, 1954, p. 16.

Biography/HistoryFargo Forum photographer Cal Olson joined this Mule Deer hunting party at the Stanley "Stack" Ripley ranch which was located 25 miles south of Medora, N.D. on the Little Missouri River, in Township 138, Range 102, Section 30.
