| Biography/History | Drunk driving and recklessness resulted in a fatal accident at a curve on U.S. Highway 81 west of Hector Airport early in the morning of April 23, 1955. Killed in the accident were Judy Cleveland, 16, of Fargo, N.D.; and Donald E. Bolstad, 22, of Moorhead, Minn. Driving the automobile was DuWayne Fuder, 20, who was injured. There were two other passengers Lois Bennett, 15, and Norine Bredeson, 16. According to the coroners inquest, the group was traveling home from a barn dance in Arthur, N.D. They were racing a second car driven by Kenneth A. Larson and Arvilla Palen. Upon passing the Larson vehicle, the Fuder car hit the curve and left the road. All five passengers were thrown from the car as it skidded and bounce 470 feet from the roadway. |
