| Transcription | "The James River is shown on the upstream side of the Jamestown dam. At the center right is the outlet works, through which the normal flow of the river will go. Next spring the reservoir will start to build up with the snow runoff. At the normal pool level of 1, 429 feet above sea level, the reservoir will hold about 40, 000 acre feet of water. That level would back the water about 12 river miles to the north. In catching the spring runoff, the pool would be operating at a higher level, backing the water possibly 33 miles upstream. The dam 's immediate purpose will be flood control. But it is the first major unit to be constructed under the overall plan for diversion of Missouri River water to Devils Lake and then into the James and Sheyenne Rivers for irrigation purposes.
