| Transcription | "The Jamestown Dam, for all intent and purposes, is completed. Along the top of the picture is the downstream side of the dam, which is 1, 700 feet long and 85 feet above the present river level. At the left is the end of the spillway, which will carry off water entering from the "glory hole" on the upstream side, when the reservoir level builds up to a point where the outlet works cannot handle the runoff safely. The reservoir will begin building up next spring. Workmen are clearing the area immediately downstream from the dam and sodding of the side shown in the picture will be completed next year. The C. F. Lytle Co. of Sioux City, Ia., has the general contract for this Bureau of Reclamation project." - Caption with image in "Jamestown Dam Ready for '54 Spring Runoff, " Fargo Forum & Daily Tribune, Sept. 29, 1953, p. 14. |
