DescriptionMrs. John Talcott (Annie Carlson) and daughter Ruth (now Mrs. George Sandy, Park River, N.D.), unidentified son, and daughter Hope (Mrs. Ted Vedvig, Carpio, N.D.). Homestead is 9 miles west and 2 miles south of Westhope in Bentinck Township. Sod house with a shingled roof, and wooden walls with sod stacked up against the sides. Three windows, a doorway, and a stovepipe are visible. A heavy wooden beam is a support for the roof. There is a wooden building in the background, (a barn?). Image is blurry in areas.

Biography/HistoryJohn F. Talcott was born in 1875 in Sweden. He came to America with his parents, and in 1901 he homesteaded near Westhope, N.D. In 1902 he married Annie C. Carlson, born in 1879 in Sweden. They raised a family of eight children. He died in 1963 and she in 1971.
