| Biography/History | "This is not Centralia, but Hoquiam, Washington, on the Northern Pacific's Grays Harbor Branch. The Northern Pacific, Milwaukee Road and Union Pacific shared a joint engine terminal facility at that point. In the photograph, from left to right, the locomotives belong to the Northern Pacific (steam), Milwaukee Road (diesel), Union Pacific (MacArthur class 2-8-2 ), and Northern Pacific (looks like a Class F-1 Consolidation, built ca. 1888). I cannot read all the locomotive numbers, but the first Northern Pacific steam locomotive looks to be a Class W-3, 2-8-2 , which were bought by the company from ca. 1907 to 1920" - E-mail identification sent by private party, 2005. |
