| Biography/History | Sophia Cale was born in Indiana in 1854. She came to Montrose, Minnesota and was married to Lively Ferrell in 1880. They had two children, William and Claude. Sophia divorced Mr. Farrell and moved with her two sons to Barnes County, Dakota Territory in October 1887. In Oct. 1889 she married William R. Ayers, and they had a son Varlynn. They lived on William Ayers homestead claim in Section 34, Ashtabula Township, Barnes County, North Dakota, which Sophia continued to farm after Mr. Ayers died in 1909. Sophia remained on the farm with her son Claude, until 1928, when she moved to Mount Vernon, Washington to live with her son Varlynn. She died in Washington on May 18, 1930. |
