| Biography/History | Sarah Knutson was born in 1882 at Hatton, N.D. of Norwegian immigrants. She homesteaded in Olivia Township, McHenry County, N.D. in 1907 where she had come to keep house for her brothers who had homesteaded earlier. After proving up her claim she worked for her brothers and in 1909 married Carl J. Gryde who had homesteaded nearby. He was born in 1884 at Hoople, N.D. He died in 1913 and Sarah and family lived wither her brothers. She later moved to Velva, N.D. and Mayville. She died in 1956. Caroline S. Peterson was born in 1882 at Hatton, N.D. In 1904 she homesteaded in Olivia Township, McHenry County, N.D. near her cousins, also from Hatton. After proving up her claim in 1909 she returned to Hatton to live. She died in 1968. |
