| Transcription | "To Mrs. Carl Lanes Grafton, North Dakota from Donald G. Lanes EM3/C U.S.S. L.S.T. 473 c/o Fleet Postmaster San Francisco June 9, 1943 Dear Folks, I hope you got my last letter okay, I still haven't recieved [sic] any mail, but am looking forward to some real soon. I hope there's a lot of it. Well, I've seen a great many things but can't talk about them. Of course, I've seen lots of water, but, being a sailor that's to be expected. I could really enjoy this under different conditions. I'm getting my second class rate real soon. I was told about it the other day and was put in charge of the electricians. It gives me an eighteen dollar raise, so if I get a chance I'm going to increase my allotment to seventy five a month. I've had the same twelve cents for over a month now, so I'll never miss the extra dough. I suppose Sis is home and having a swell time. Tell her to send me Gert's address. I'm going to try and get a lot of letter writing done one of these days. How's that Bergman guy that went to school with Sis? I think he's Irene's brother. This will have to be all for now.
