Biography/HistoryThis map of northern Slope County shows the patches of ponderosa pine forest (dark areas.) The red line shows the boundaries of the Dakota National Forest. This forest was the only national forest in North Dakota (1908 – 1917.) Ponderosa pines are rare in North Dakota.
