Biography/HistoryIn on December 21st, 1894, Edward Severson was found dead from a gunshot. In the subsequent trial, it was discovered that his employer, Hiram B. Wadsworth, had paid another employee to kill Severson. The trial was moved to Burleigh County to avoid jury tampering. A verdict of not guilty was returned. The people of Medora, outraged, lynched effigies of the jury at the "Hangin' Tree" outside the De Mores Brick Hotel.
