Biography/HistoryThe first North Dakota Chautauqua was held in 1892. In 1893 the permanent Chautauqua site on Rock Island, Devils Lake, was established. Native Americans from the nearby Fort Totten Indian Reservation would come to the Chautaqua and perform dances.
