| Biography/History | The Selkirk, a wood-hulled sternwheel steamboat, was built by James J. Hill, Alexander Griggs and associates at McCauleyville, Minnesota, in the winter of 1870-71. In 1872, she became part of the newly formed Red River Transportation Company. In 1877, she carried the steam locomotive, The Countess of Dufferin, and its cars to Winnipeg to serve the Canadian Pacific. The Selkirk was wrecked at Grand Forks, N.D., Oct. 25, 1887. |
