| Transcription | "Saw this postcard here recently and thought you would be interested. Ripley in his 'Believe it or Not' of March 15, 1945 carried a sketch of this old man and stated that 'he died at 151, no doubt the oldest man known to have lived in the U.S.' Local residents believe him to have been around 100, possibly less when he died. Old timers and his own family verify this: he had a skin disease which gave his skin an appearance similar to elephant hide and indicative of great age which gave vent for his zeal for bragging and exaggerated stories"--Handwritten on back of postcard. |
