DescriptionAn example of Collegiate Gothic architecture, the east facade of South Jr. High (Grand Forks, N.D.) features a striking two story entrance featuring a double-leaf doorway with transom framed on both sides by brick/concrete columns which also frame the second story window. The twin entrance columns contain high-relief figures of school children, a boy and a girl, reading Treasure Island and Little Women respectively. Three Bicylcles are seen in front of the south windows.

Biography/HistoryBuilt in 1932, South Middle School (South Jr. High) was the only school built in Grand Forks between 1918 and 1948. The building had two additions, built in 1956 and 1978. The school remained in use until it was rendered unusable by the 1997 Grand Forks flood. South Jr. High was listed on the National Historic Register 1999-03-05.
