Biography/HistoryBasketball games were held in gymnasiums this size, or even smaller, until the 1930s. There was just a small space for spectators. Referees were often local and favored the hometown team. Nevertheless, the popularity of the game as winter entertainment continued to grow in North Dakota. Today, 10,000 people will crowd university or city auditorium gym for the Class B state tournament.
