Built in 1909, St. Mary's Academy is an example of the work of one of North Dakota's most prominent architectural firms, the Hancock Brothers (Fargo N.D.). Designed in the Neo-Classical Style, the academy served students from Devils Lake and the surrounding area for 70 years. It first functioned as a boarding school, and later as a day school. The building was entered into the National Register of Historic Places 1983-02-24.
