Nancy Christenson Hendrickson was born February 26, 1886, and was the 6th child of Swedish immigrants. She was the first to be born on the family homestead along the Heart River near Mandan. Nancy attended school classes during the winter, but learned mostly from the many magazines her family subscribed to. In the 1920s, responsibility for the homestead fell to Nancy as her mother fell ill. She worked as a seamstress and engaged in animal photography. Many of her photos won awards and were sold in newspapers and magazines. Nancy met and married Herman Aspens in 1927. Herman died of cancer in 1934. Nancy married her second husband Carl Hendrickson in 1935 and lived on his homestead. Carl died in 1970 and Nancy remained alone on the homestead until her death in 1978.
