| Biography/History | C. Norman Brunsdale was educated in Portland N.D. before going to university at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He then returned to the family farm in the Portland area. He was a supporter of water projects, and saw the Garrison Dam and Conservancy District established during his term. After leaving the governor's office, he was appointed to the Senate after the death of William Langer. Carrie Lajord married C. Norman Brunsdale. The two met at Bruflat Academy in Portland, N.D. Carrie and Norman had two daughters, Margaret and Helen. The Brunsdales moved to the Governor's Mansion in 1950, but always considered Mayville, N.D. to be their home. Margaret Brunsdale graduated from the University of North Dakota (UND) and worked at the University of Minnesota. She married Edson G. Larson on October 8, 1955 at the Governor's mansion in Bismarck. They resided in Mayville where Edson engaged in farming. Helen Brunsdale graduated from Vassar College, and held newspaper and other journalistic positions. Helen married Percy D. Williams on August 4, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck. The couple made their home in Houston, Texas, where Mr. Williams practiced law. Norman's three granddaughters were born to them. |
