Ben Bird was known as the oldest genuine cowboy at the time of his death, and rode at times with Theodore Roosevelt and the Marquis de Mores. He began his career driving cattle north from Texas in 1884. He settled in Western North Dakota in the 1890s. T.F. Roberts moved to Billings County with his family in 1891. He was the father of Harry Roberts, long-time caretaker of the Chateau de Mores in Medora.
