DescriptionThe interior three-story atrium of the Barnes County Courthouse in Valley City, N.D. is surrounded by walls faced in Italian marble. The stairways are trimmed with Belgian marble with marble steps and a bronze balustrade and railing with decorative rosettes.

Biography/HistoryThe Barnes County Courthouse is a large, three-story edifice with a basement, a brick and tile structural system, and Indiana limestone facing. There are four columns above the entry, a balustrade above the cornice, a three part horizontal composition, corner pilasters, and cleanly lined fenestration. The courthouse was designed by the Minneapolis architectural firm of Toltz, King and Day and was built around 1925.
