| Biography/History | The steamboat F.Y. Batchelor, a sternwheel packet with a wood hull, was built in Freedom, Pa., and finished in Pittsburgh, in 1878. In 1885 she was sold to the Benton Packet Co., and made her last trip to Fort Benton in 1890. This was said to be the last commercial freight taken to the fort by steamboat. She was caught in winter quarters at Running Water, S.D., by ice, and was wrecked on Mar. 6, 1907. She was once captained by Grant Marsh. Photographer Frank Fiske was a cabin boy on the Batchelor between 1898 and 1900. |
