DescriptionThe barn on the Grandins Mayville Farm District near Mayville North Dakota was built between 1910 and 1920 and features a gambrel belcast roof made of asphalt shingles. Sided with shiplap and corner boards, the second story has a large hayloft, and tin ventilators are located along the ridge pole.

Biography/HistoryThe Grandins' Mayville Farm is directly associated with the Grandin family whose members were among the first eastern entrepreneurs to attempt large scale bonanza farming in the state of North Dakota. Brothers E.B. and J.L. Grandin were Pennsylvania bankers who in 1875 acquired nearly a hundred sections of land in Traill County. The best known of their operations, the Grandins' Mayville Farm consisted on thirty-six of these sections. Subdivisions and land sales beginning in 1915 have greatly reduced the amount of acreage associated with the farm, however the District retains physical characteristics that gave it its historic identity. The District was entered into the National Register of Historic Places 1985-11-14.
