The Grandins' Mayville Farm is directly associated with the Grandin family whose members were among the first eastern entrepreneurs to attempt large scale bonanza farming in the state of North Dakota. Brothers E.B. and J.L. Grandin were Pennsylvania bankers who in 1875 acquired nearly a hundred sections of land in Traill County. The best known of their operations, the Grandins' Mayville Farm consisted on thirty-six of these sections. Subdivisions and land sales beginning in 1915 have greatly reduced the amount of acreage associated with the farm, however the District retains physical characteristics that gave it its historic identity. The District was entered into the National Register of Historic Places 1985-11-14.
