| Description | The main house on the Lucken Farm near Portland North Dakota was built in 1888 and exhibits a mixture of styles, roof treatments, and textures. It possesses a Stick styling with the incorporation of the Italianate Style. The house has clapboard siding and is capped by a truncated hipped roof. There are two chimneys projecting from the flat sections of the roof, and two porches on the east and south facades were originally open but were enclosed in the 1930s. The leafless trees suggest the wintertime setting. |

| Biography/History | The Lucken Farm near Portland, North Dakota was built by Halleck E. Lucken, the son of Norwegian immigrants in 1888. It is a significant example of early homesteading and farming in the Red River Valley of the North. Halleck was a farmer, politician and educator as well as a businessman. He and his wife Ingborg (Belle) Anderson raised four daughters at the farm. After their parent's deaths, the daughters retained ownership of the farm.
