| Biography/History | John Carmody was appointed to the North Dakota Supreme Court in 1909 by Governor John Burke, after the constitution required the change in the number of justices from three to five. Carmody was defeated in the election of 1910. Prior to joining the Supreme Court, Carmody had served as mayor of Hillsboro, N.D., as well as the city attorney. After leaving the Supreme Court, he served as an assistant attorney general, and then as Assistant United States Attorney for North Dakota. |
