Biography/HistoryThis chapel at the village of Independence had to be moved to avoid being flooded. Moving from the fertile river bottom land required people to uproot everything important in their lives including their homes, schools, churches, and cemeteries.
The Independence Chapel was moved before the inundation of floodwaters into Elbowoods and area after the building of the Garrison Dam.
