Biography/HistoryOn September 3rd, 1863, Gen. Sully attacked an encampment of Yanktonai, Dakota, Hunkpapa Lakota and Blackfeet at this location, approximately 23 miles southeast of Kulm, North Dakota. Today two monuments stand on this site, one for the soldiers killed, and another for the Native American dead. The soldiers monument at Whitestone Hill was dedicated in 1909.
