| Biography/History | William C. Treumann was born in 1862 in Holstein, Germany. His family emigrated to Ohio, then Indiana, then LeSueur, Minn. He moved to Grand Forks in 1881, and later to Grafton in 1884 where he became deputy register of deeds and then operated a real estate and abstract business. Treumann was elected 2nd Lieutenant in the 1st North Dakota Volunteers, and later rose through the ranks to Captain, Major, and Lieutenant Colonel. He served in the Philippines during the Spanish-American War. He married Elizabeth Baird in 1888, and they had five children. W.C. would later serve on the school board, and as county auditor. In 1901, he purchased a home on Cooper Avenue in Grafton and named it Elmwood. He died in 1937. |
