Transcription"Pump Coulee 9 miles N.E. of Carson, N.D. where the Custer forces camped. The coulee was named "Pump" because a pump which had been left there by the soldiers while enroute to the west was found by some farmers. The old trail can be seen quite distinctly. Pearl Lee Carson, N.D."--Handwritten on back of photograph.
