| Biography/History | John J. Crittenden was a second lieutenant in the Seventh Cavalry, and was the son of Union general Thomas Leonidas Crittenden. James Calhoun was married to George Custer's sister Margaret, and was appointed First Lieutenant of the Seventh Cavalry. Calhoun's body was reinterred on the top of Custer Hill in 1877 where a granite memorial now stands. At the request of Crittenden's family, his body remained on the battlefield itself until 1931, when it was exhumed and reburied within the national cemetery grounds. |
