Biography/HistoryThomas Ward Custer fought in the Civil War, and was awarded the Medal of Honor twice for his actions. He was a First Lieutenant and later a Captain in the Seventh Cavalry commanded by his brother George Custer. He was buried on the Little Bighorn Battlefield in 1876, but exhumed and reburied at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery in 1877.
