| Biography/History | Jesse Whitaker was born in 1886 in southern Indiana. At the age of 18, he moved to Michigan. In 1907 he returned to Indiana, then briefly moved to Beach, N.D. with the rest of his family who homesteaded there. He was married to Edith Henderson in 1908 in Michigan. In 1910, the Whitakers moved to Regent, N.D. where Jesse had a dray business plus worked as a bulk agent for Standard Oil. The family moved to Dunn Center in 1914, where he worked for Standard Oil again until 1949. During the height of his dray business in Dunn Center, Jesse had 4 men working for him, including his brother in law Floyd Henderson. Jesse and Edith had six children: Kenneth, Era, Alice, Sarah, Wilbur, and Omar. Jesse Whitaker died in 1975.
