DescriptionThis plaque in the Hettinger County Courthouse in Mott, N.D. commemorates the last buffalo hunt in the county which it claims was led by Levi Colgrove and his son Jim. It further states that the elder Colgrove was the first white man to live in the county and that following this hunt no buffalo were seen in the county. According to the plaque, this hunt took place in the spring of 1884.

Biography/HistoryThe Hettinger County Courthouse in Mott, N.D. was constructed between 1934 and 1936 with funds made possible through a PWA grant. This courthouse has an outstanding degree of integrity and is one of only two North Dakota courthouses with Deco styling west of the Missouri River (the other is the Stark County courthouse in Dickinson, N.D.) The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places 1985-11-14 as part of the North Dakota Courthouses Thematic Nomination.
