Transcription"Photo no. 5 On July 18, 1947, the site of the intake structure of Garrison Dam was nothing but a grassy slope and a sent of blueprints and specifications. Although construction of the structure itself did not begin until 1950, excavation of the area started in October 1947 under the Stage I contract"--Typed on label affixed to back of photograph.
